Get Started with Zing® 11 Feature Preview on Amazon Linux

These instructions guide you through the Zing® 11 Preview installation on Amazon Linux. Amazon Linux is the preferred when running on AWS. For other Linux distributions on AWS select those on the Zing® 11 Preview Quick Start Guide.

Note: Our software distributions are signed by an OpenPGP key when appropriate. To verify your download, see Product Signing Keys (OpenPGP) for details.

Step 1: Install Zing

    1. Ensure your virtual machine has sufficient CPU and RAM resources to support Zing. EC2 HVM instances are required and as size at least *.xlarge is recommended. Smaller instances can be used for tests.
    2. Import Azul's public key:
    sudo rpm --import http://repos.azul.com/azul-repo.key
    1. Attach the Yum repository:
    sudo curl -o /etc/yum.repos.d/zing-fp.repo http://repos.azul.com/zing-fp/amazonlinux/zing.repo
    1. Run the following command to install Zing:
    sudo yum install kernel-devel-$(uname -r) zing-jdk11.0.0-fp

Step 2: License Zing

Note: Azul Zing gives you a 6-month grace period. This grace period starts when the software binary for which you have not installed a license was built. At the end of the 6-month grace period you need to obtain your Zing License Key or update your bits and enjoy the extension of the grace period.

    1. If you have not already done so, sign up for a Zing license key.
    2. Check the Zing License Key email you received from Azul and locate your trial license passcode.
    3. Run the following command which installs the license file to /etc/zing/license:

    sudo zing-obtain-trial-license -p TrialLicensePasscode

Step 3: Run Zing

    Once you performed all installation steps, you can start running your Java applications with Zing as follows:

    1. Verify the Java version:
    /opt/zing/zing-jdk11-fp/bin/java -version

    Sample output:

    java version "11-ea" 2018-09-25
    Zing Runtime Environment for Java Applications (build 11-ea+28-feature-preview)
    Zing 64-Bit Tiered VM (build 11-ea+28-feature-preview-zing_99.99.99.99.dev-b2422-product-azlinuxM-X86_64, mixed mode)
    

    You may want to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the Zing installation directory, e.g. $ export JAVA_HOME=/opt/zing/zing-jdk11-fp.

    1. Start your Java application by using the newly installed Zing Virtual Machine.
    2. If you do not see the output above, visit the Zing Community Forum.

Once you verified Zing installation, proceed with the post-installation steps.
