Zing® Compact Strings Feature Preview

The zvm-dev-2422 release of Zing for Java 11 supports JEP 254, the compact strings optimization. This optimization helps reduce memory footprint and improve performance of string-intensive applications. Like in OpenJDK, the compact strings feature is enabled by default in Zing JDK 10.

To disable the feature, use the following option:

-XX:-CompactStrings
