Get Started with Zing® 11 on Debian

Need a different Linux distro? Go back to the Zing Quick Start Guide.

These instructions will guide you through the easy process to try Zing 11 on Debian Jessie (8.2 and higher).

Note: Our software distributions are signed by an OpenPGP key when appropriate. To verify your download, see Product Signing Keys (OpenPGP) for details.

Step 1: Install Zing

    1. Import Azul's public key:
    sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp:// --recv-keys 0xB1998361219BD9C9
    1. Attach the APT repository:
    sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/zing.list
    1. Update the information about available packages:
    sudo apt-get update
    1. Run the following command to install Zing:
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r); apt-get install zing-jdk11.0.0

Step 2: License Zing

    1. If you have not already done so, sign up for a Zing Trial in order to obtain your Zing License Key.
    2. Check the Zing License Key email you received from Azul and locate your trial license passcode (if you did not receive the email in your inbox, check your Spam or Junk email folders).
    3. Run the following command which installs the license file to /etc/zing/license:

    sudo zing-obtain-trial-license -p TrialLicensePasscode

Step 3: Run Zing

Once you performed all installation steps, you can start running your Java applications with Zing as follows:

    1. Verify the Java version:
    /opt/zing/zing-jdk11/bin/java -version

    Sample output:

      java version "11.0.1" 2018-12-12 LTS
Zing Runtime Environment for Java Applications (build 11.0.1+13-LTS)
Zing 64-Bit Tiered VM (build 11.0.1-zing_18.12.0.0-b9-product-azlinuxM-X86_64, mixed mode)

(you might want to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the Zing installation directory, e.g. $ export JAVA_HOME=/opt/zing/zing-jdk11).

    1. Start your Java application by using the newly installed Zing Virtual Machine.
    2. If you do not see the output above, visit the Zing Community Forum.

Once you verified Zing installation, proceed with the post-installation steps.
