Install the Zing Virtual Machine with ZST

To install the ZVM software using the appropriate installer for your supported platform.

  1. Ensure that you have installed the Zing Standalone License and the Zing System Tools.
  2. Ensure you have access to the download site (contact [email protected] to obtain the required credentials).
  3. Download the installation package corresponding to your operating system and your version of Java. Verify that the file size is the same as shown on the download page.

The ZVM installation package formats are:

System ZVM Installation Package Format
Shar zing-jdk<version>-<zvm_version>.<platform>.sh
Tar zing-jdk<version>-<zvm_version>.<platform>.tar.gz

RHEL, SLES, or Amazon Linux




  1. If you are using an .rpm or .deb installation package, login with sudo privileges.
  1. Run the appropriate command to install the ZVM component on the host machine where the Java applications will be run.
  • For Shar script installation:

$ ./zing-jdk<version>-<zvm_version>.<platform>.sh

  • For Tar archive installation:

$ tar -C /<zing_java_directory>/zing -xzvf zing-jdk<version>-<zvm_version>.<platform>.tar.gz

  • For RHEL systems:

$ yum localinstall –-nogpgcheck ./zing-jdk<version>-<zvm_version>.<platform>.rpm

  • For SLES systems:

$ zypper install ./zing-jdk<version>-<zvm_version>.<platform>.rpm

  • For Ubuntu systems:

$ sudo dpkg -i ./zing-jdk<version>_<zvm_version>_<platform>.deb


  1. To verify the Zing ZVM installation run the following command:

    • For installation from rpm and deb packages:

    $ /opt/zing/zing-jdk8/bin/java -version

    • For installation from sh and tar:

    $ /<zing_java_directory>/zing-jdk<version>/bin/java -version
