Installing the Zing Virtual Machine

Be sure your system meets the following system requirements:

  • RHEL/CentOS 7.3 (or later)
  • Ubuntu 16.04 (or later)
  • SLES 12 SP2 (or later)
  • Debian 9 (or later)
  • Amazon Linux 1 or 2

The Zing Virtual Machine (ZVM) can be downloaded to your system either from the Zing repository or from the FTP server. To download and install the ZVM from the Zing repository, proceed with the instructions described in the Zing Quickstart that suit your target environment.

If you contacted [email protected] and obtained the credentials to download the ZVM installation package from the Software Downloads and Documents page, perform the following steps:

1. Download the ZVM installation package appropriate for your operating system from Software Downloads and Documents.

2. Run the installation command:

sudo yum localinstall –-nogpgcheck zing-jdk1.8.0-19.9.9.9.x86_64.rpm

SLES

sudo zypper install zing-jdk1.8.0-19.9.9.9.x86_64.rpm

Ubuntu

Debian

sudo dpkg -i zing-jdk1.8.0_19.9.9.9_amd64.deb

Any

tar xzf zing-jdk1.8.0-19.9.9.9.tar.gz

Any

./zing-jdk1.8.0-19.9.9.9.sh

3. Install your Zing license. See Installing a Zing License for details.

4. Finalize installation steps as described in Complete the Post Zing Virtual Machine Installation Tasks.

Note

If your system does not meet the system requirements, the Zing Virtual Machine prints out the following message:

Zing VM Error: Running without ZST requires memfd_create(2), which is not supported by this version of the operating system.
Zing VM Error: See documentation for more details.

Refer to the Troubleshooting Zing for any issues or errors encountered during installation.
