Get Started with Zing® on Amazon Linux

Need a different Linux distro? Go back to the Zing Quick Start Guide

These instructions guide you through the Zing installation on Amazon Linux only. Amazon Linux is preferred when running on AWS. For other Linux distributions on AWS select those in the Zing Quick Start Guide.

Note: Our software distributions are signed by an OpenPGP key when appropriate. To verify your download, see Product Signing Keys (OpenPGP) for details.

Step 1: Install Zing

    1. Ensure your virtual machine has sufficient CPU and RAM resources to support Zing. EC2 HVM instances are required and as size at least *.xlarge is recommended. Smaller instances can be used for tests.
    2. Import Azul's public key:
    sudo rpm --import https://repos.azul.com/azul-repo.key
    1. Attach the Yum repository:
    sudo curl -o /etc/yum.repos.d/zing.repo https://repos.azul.com/zing/amazonlinux/zing.repo
    1. Run the following command to install Zing:
    sudo yum install kernel-devel-$(uname -r) zing-jdk1.8.0

    Step 2: License Zing

      1. Sign up for a Zing Trial License in order to obtain your Zing Trial Token.
      2. Check the Zing Trial Token email you received from Azul and locate your Zing Trial Token (if you did not receive the email in your inbox, check your Spam or Junk email folders).
      3. In your browser, go to https://trial-licenses.azul.com/redeem, enter the Zing Trial Token, and click Download License.
      4. On your system, save the license file to /etc/zing/license.

    Step 3: Run Zing

Once you performed all installation steps, you can start running your Java applications with Zing as follows:

      1. Verify the Java version:
      /opt/zing/zing-jdk8/bin/java -version

      Sample output:

      java version "1.8.0-zing_19.07.0.0"
Zing Runtime Environment for Java Applications (build 1.8.0-zing_19.07.0.0-b3)
Zing 64-Bit Tiered VM (build 1.8.0-zing_19.07.0.0-b4-product-linux-X86_64, mixed mode)

(you might want to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the Zing installation directory, e.g. $ export JAVA_HOME=/opt/zing/zing-jdk8).

      1. Start your Java application by using the newly installed Zing Virtual Machine.
      2. If you do not see the output above, visit the Zing Community Forum.

Once you verified Zing installation, proceed with the post-installation steps.
