Need a different Linux distro? Go back to the Zing Quick Start Guide.

These instructions will guide you through the easy process to try Zing 11 on SLES 11 and SLES 12.

Note: Our software distributions are signed by an OpenPGP key when appropriate. To verify your download, see Product Signing Keys (OpenPGP) for details.

Step 1: Install Zing

Install Zing by using an Azul System repository that corresponds to your environment.

    1. Import Azul's public key:
    sudo rpm --import https://repos.azul.com/azul-repo.key
    1. Attach the Yum repository.

    For SLES 11:

    sudo zypper addrepo https://repos.azul.com/zing/sles/11 zing

    For SLES 12:

    sudo zypper addrepo https://repos.azul.com/zing/sles/12 zing
    1. Run the following commands to install Zing:
    sudo zypper install zing-jdk11.0.0
    1. Increase the limit for virtual memory usage:
    sudo ulimit -v unlimited

Step 2: License Zing

  1. Sign up for a Zing Trial License in order to obtain your Zing Trial Token.
  2. Check the Zing Trial Token email you received from Azul and locate your Zing Trial Token (if you did not receive the email in your inbox, check your Spam or Junk email folders).
  3. In your browser, go to https://trial-licenses.azul.com/redeem, enter the Zing Trial Token, and click Download License.
  4. On your system, save the license file to /etc/zing/license.

Step 3: Run Zing

Once you performed all installation steps, you can start running your Java applications with Zing as follows:

    1. Verify the Java version:
    /opt/zing/zing-jdk11/bin/java -version

    Sample output:

    java version "11.0.3.0.101" 2019-07-24 LTS
Zing Runtime Environment for Java Applications 19.07.0.0+3 (product build 11.0.3.0.101+12-LTS)
Zing 64-Bit Tiered VM 19.07.0.0+3 (product build 11.0.3.0.101-zing_19.07.0.0-b4-product-linux-X86_64, mixed mode)

(you might want to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the Zing installation directory, e.g. $ export JAVA_HOME=/opt/zing/zing-jdk11).

    1. Start your Java application by using the newly installed Zing Virtual Machine.
    2. If you do not see the output above, visit the Zing Community Forum.

Once you verified Zing installation, proceed with the post-installation steps.
